Meet the Team

Penny Weigand - Dietitian

Penny is an Accredited Practising Dietitian who started her dietetics career at Sydney Children’s Hospital in 2012, however has worked almost exclusively in the area of weight loss surgery since 2016. She is therefore very experienced in supporting people both pre and post operatively. 

Penny has an interest in longer term weight maintenance and assisting with implementing behaviours and habits post operatively which are important in driving successful weight maintenance.  She also has a special interest in supporting women who wish to fall pregnant (or who are pregnant) after having had weight loss surgery. 

Penny is an active member of Dietitians Australia, including being a member of the Bariatric Surgery Interest Group Leadership team and is also a member of the Australia New Zealand Metabolic and Obesity Surgery Society. She actively up skills her practice each year, with regular attendance at bariatric and metabolic surgery conferences, eating disorder and fertility nutrition workshops. When not at work you’ll find Penny at pilates, hiking or taxiing her kids to one of many different sports fields.

Warren Artz - Psychologist

Warren is an AHPRA registered psychologist who specialises almost exclusively in assessing and supporting patients through weight loss surgery. He has over 15 years bariatric experience and helped close to 5000 patients in preparation for gastric sleeve, gastric bypass, gastric band, and gastric balloon procedures. He consults via Telehealth/Zoom to patients living anywhere in Australia and accepts referrals and mental health care plans from GPs to support patients. 

Warren is an ex-professional soccer player who spent time as a player in South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia, and the USA, where he lived for 13 years playing and coaching. His initial interest in sports psychology led to opportunities to work with bariatric patients. He believes ‘habit trumps motivation’ and that good habits follow good habits. With knowledge, and appropriate guidance, we can set realistic goals and achieve them.

Warren lives on the Gold Coast, QLD with his wife and their two children. He remains actively involved in sport, playing golf and training for open water swimming. He studied at the University of Southern Mississippi and Bond University and holds undergraduate and post-graduate degrees from both the US and Australia.

Dr Cameron Hunt - Anaesthetist

Dr Hunt is a graduate of the University of NSW, and trained as a specialist anaesthetist in Sydney, through Concord and Liverpool Hospitals. He also trained in aeromedical retrieval work through Careflight. He is now involved in private specialist practice with appointments to Sutherland Hospital, Kareena, Campbelltown and St George Private Hospitals. Dr Hunt’s clinical expertise centres around bariatric anaesthesia, anaesthesia for urology, orthopaedics, facio-maxillary and obstetric/gynaecological surgery.
